APRIL – 2017

Friends, here is the latest news from Chile:

WILDFIRES:  Thankfully, our folks in Santa Olga who lost their homes in the fires are all safe now living with family members in nearby cities.  There is some construction taking place in the area, and hopefully we will see progress in their neighborhood soon.  Thank you for your prayers on their behalf.

PASTOR’S CAMP:  The last week of February we participated in our annual Pastor’s Camp with Dr. Bill Smith as speaker.  There were close to 100 campers, and the lessons and messages were a great blessing to all.

  • Mission’s Conference: March was Mission’s Month at the church, and it was amazing!  Each week we received reports from members of the church who went on mission trips earlier this year.
    • Kenya: One member spent 20 days working with a group preparing to build an orphanage in a small community. He helped build a water system and a shelter, taught children’s classes and held evangelistic meetings and discipleship classes.  Both children and parents made professions of faith during this time.
    • Paraguay: Eight members of our church spent several weeks serving in areas where Pastor Hugo and his wife had ministered as our missionaries to that country. While they were there they held Bible School Classes, a Vacation Bible School for children, Men’s meetings, Workshops for ladies, Couple’s Meetings, and English Classes.  They also organized a Family Camp and visited in a Senior Citizen’s home.  Our church sent offerings to help the lay-pastor and his family in San Juan.  At least eight adults received the Lord as well as some children.  It is interesting to see what has happened in that country since Pastor Hugo ministered there.  A new mission in one town had to close when the government made the missionaries leave.  One church that Hugo started now has a missionary leading the work.  Another church that he helped plant has grown with their lay-pastor, and our church has helped them over the years with basic needs. We want to help prepare young men for ordination and help supply teaching materials.  The culture there is very different from Chile, and the work is very difficult. Please pray for the great need in Paraguay!
    • Copiapó: Francisco and Elena Rivera are a retired couple in our church. Years ago, they lived in North Chile and helped establish a church there. One couple who they led to the Lord, Juan Carlos and Carolyne, are now in charge of a church that was established by missionary David Reinhardt.  The church had gone through some difficulties with their previous national pastor and had lost many members.  So, our church sent the Rivera’s up to lend a hand for several weeks.  While they were there they established a music ministry and a children’s choir, they began a discipleship ministry, couple’s meetings, ladies’ ministry, visitation and counseling ministries and Bible Institute classes.  The church grew from 60 to 130 members.  Now they are scheduled to return to Copiapó the first part of May to help establish a Sunday School, prepare future teachers through a Pedagogy class and create a Senior Citizen’s ministry.  Please pray for this amazing couple, as they have health challenges and will need financial help to continue.

PROPERTY EXPROPRIATION: We have been advised that the city has halted plans to expropriate our property for the new highway to be built in front of our church. In fact, it appears that the whole highway project has been placed on hold!  We don’t have any idea what is going on behind the scenes, but right now we are so very glad that we still have a place to carry on the work here in La Reina.  Thank you for your prayers.  We will continue to pray and trust for now.

DISNEY PLANS:  We will be traveling to the US toward the end of May for medical and ministry reasons.  Dave needs to get follow-up tests because of his cancer surgery last year, and he needs some additional therapy.  Also, he needs to have cataract surgery on one eye.  We will be spending eight weeks ministering as well at the Silver State Baptist Youth Camp in the Colorado Rockies, and we look forward to seeing some of you there!  We will be returning to Chile around the end of August or first of September.  Dave is scheduled to teach a doctrine class at the Bible Baptist Institute of Macul September through December of this year.

Thank you for your prayers, support and encouragement.
