A few months ago we asked you to pray for our church in La Reina, Santiago which is going into a “new phase” of her history with the new highway that will be built on the street that runs in front of our buildings, taking most of our property, deeming it necessary to relocate. Over the past three and a half months we have been in negotiations with the authorities to come to a financial agreement for the expropriation of that property and relocation of the church. We have now received an offer which seems to be favorable, and we will be taking it before the church later this month, asking them to approve it. We are confident that this would be the right move, and are asking you again to pray for God’s intervention in this.
Concerning another issue, last year Chile approved new laws which affect all religious organizations and their financial accounting practices. Some of our churches are still members of our missionary corporation and under the legal protection of that organization, which was created and approved for the establishment of new churches. This has always provided a good legal channel through which we have been able to begin churches and have them protected under our non-profit protection status. These churches must now begin the process of declaring directly to the Chilean government as individual entities, which entails several legal steps including incorporation. We would ask you to pray for these churches. In the past four years, we have been able to get two of our churches through this process, and now are working with five more. There is some complicated legal work which entails the employment of a lawyer and submitting our paperwork to the proper authorities. As some of these churches are fairly new, it will be a bit of a challenge to get this done quickly, but we are doing what we can to help them through the process. We not only want to satisfy the government and be in compliance with these new laws, but also see it as helping these churches become totally autonomous in nature. Therefore, we have encouraged them to take the necessary steps toward the incorporation of their church. Pray for us as we navigate this together.
We also have an update on my health. My recent blood test showed my PSA level at 0.02, which essentially means “zero”. Praise God! That means I will not need to undergo radiation therapy at this time. However, I am still having complications from post-surgery. I will begin a new round of therapy this week, which continues through October, my next medical evaluation date. Thank you so much for your concern and prayers.
