We arrived in Denver, Colorado to begin our furlough at the beginning of this month, tired but happy to see dear friends and family for the first time in over three years.
Peggy has been struggling with some health issues but has had an opportunity to get a little rest while visiting her family. Meanwhile, I have been honored to preach both in our sending church, First Baptist Church of Englewood, and at the Lighthouse Baptist Church in Colorado Springs.
During the month of September we will be speaking in churches in Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas and Colorado. Two of those meetings are mission’s conferences.
Meanwhile, we have received word from Pastor Leonel of Hualpén. He reports that on August 20th he was en route to meetings in Osorno, to the south of Hualpén, when the highway was blocked by a violent protest. The bus in which he was traveling was forced to stop and there was a skirmish between the protesters and the police. Pastor Leonel says he was thankful for the extra time, because he was carrying many gospel tracts, and he was able to pass them around and witness to the other passengers.
The following Saturday, Pastor Leonel was invited to speak at the inauguration of a community sporting event. He preached a short message, and several folks, including community leaders, expressed their desire to visit the church to learn more about the saving grace of our Lord, Jesus Christ.
That same evening, Leonel held a mission’s emphasis meeting in the church, and eight young people surrendered their lives to the Lord, some as faithful workers, some as givers, and some as pastors.
The next day, Sunday, Leonel was invited to preach in a small church in the town of La Ligua, which is eight hours north of Hualpén. This is a busy man of God!
Pastor Leonel has told us that he has a great burden to preach and evangelize at every possible opportunity these days, and he is thankful for the strength and enthusiasm that the Lord has given.
Please pray for Pastor Leonel Espinoza and for the Disneys as we are currently serving Him on two continents.
